The Civil War in North Carolina
North Carolina seceded from the Union on May 20, 1861 after the fall of Fort Sumter. The majority of the battles that took place in North Carolina were Union Victories. The most famous campaign was held at Fort Fisher. The first conflict was a confederate victory followed by a second conflict that was in favor of the Union. The last struggle ended where Sherman's March to the Sea ended in Raleigh.
